A short introduction...

My name is Eben Sullivan, and this is my final project for History of Communications (MEDI111) at Vancouver Island University.

For most of my life I have been fascinated with comics and animation. I've read and watched many wonderful stories and met many fantastic artists that influence and inspire me to this day. However, I've always wondered how Canadians fare in this international industry; the biggest companies (like Disney and Warner Brothers) are all based in the United States. Is it easy to get work, and are American companies willing to employ those of us North of the 49th parallel? As it turns out, they are.

I interviewed "Dapper" Dan Schoening, an artist who does his majority of work for companies in the United States, despite himself being based in Victoria, British Columbia, and asked his opinion on working for companies south of the border.
